Yes, it's the eve of May 10th and not New Year's Eve. You'll soon see why the puzzle has the title it does.

Pete's actually a very prolific constructor and was one of the stars of Peter Gordon's NY Sun stable of constructors. One I remember in particular featured a trick that if the clue number was prime, the entry in the puzzle was backwards. I'm still scratching my head over that one! ;)
