Since the drink is named after the island, I see total root overlap in this dd--but here goes...

Dave, it's not solving the clue, it's what to do with the answer .... again. Your answers seem to be conversation-stoppers. Bob

I've tried to come up with a new clue too, but without success. If it will help move things along (or maybe not) here's the clue I posted, but immediately deleted, because Dave beat me by about two minutes.

19a. Last half of confederates shot up ridges (6)

Anyone who thinks ARETES is easier to work into a clue than SALLIES, raise your hand -- you're my hero. Bob

This is the best I can do for now. I think the punctuation doesn't quite work.

20. One from Tampa, leading off, sallies and scores (7)

These others had been posted so you may have seen them but they each have issues. For example, I'm not a big fan of using an indefinite 'leadership change'. I suspect it's been used but I don't know how often. All the clues have the same answer.

20b. Sallies turning single into triple? and scores (7)

20c. Records sallies after leadership change? (7)

Marg, Sorry 'bout the DD at the top of this page. A poor clue.
