Here's a place to share and discuss one-off clues. (I threw in the "Henry's" to the thread title in honor of our cryptic Henrys but also to avoid leaving the cryptic wordplay of "random clues" just sitting there.

Got it.

The answer is ELITIST - deriving from ELI STONE losing ONE, and 'accepting' IT.

A good clue. And not a bad get from this black duck, considering the show has yet to hit Australian shores.

Here's a TV sequel for another clue:

Clip from TV is taped for Panorama (5)

I thought VISTA really did a good job of making a hidden clue interesting, and WINTERY was great. I had no clue who the TV character was, though.

No pudding until you finish your rusty saw!

Pudding:
4. The reverend's wineglass dropped in hot fat with certain dipterans (5,5)
5. I have supper after ten (6)

[Edited to remove whtefont from clues 4 and 5.]

I've been thinking about notable Rusties, such as my compatriot Mr Crowe, but nothing seems to click. And then saw: the adage, the maxim, the gnome. But no cigar.

(And now I've peeked at dessert, and my nerve is quaking like Jello. Where are you sourcing these nightmares?)

I finally got "Rusty saw," and thanks for the crossings. I think it's a superb clue that works and is also challenging. I'd seen that the double def might require "saw" as a verb form, but I hadn't found its sense. Perfect.

Hmm, this white on white is a challenge unto itself:

4. The reverend's wineglass dropped in hot fat with certain dipterans (5,5) FRUIT FLIES (Spoonerism of "flute fries")

Good clue, and I didn't even know what a dipteran is. I'll deal with the font choice for the other clue another time!

Sorry. Didn't mean to make you quake, and I don't take "nightmares" as a negative criticism. :) As for the source, as the little boy in those ancient TV commercials said: "I make eet up." My definition (not the only one) of a one-off clue is one I wrote that I don't have any particular use for other than to post here. Come to think of it, that's pretty much all of them.

Clue 3 is a double def, where the first is an adjective and the second a verb in the past tense. No adage, no maxim, no gnome, but I couldn't be happier to have caused you to go in those (mis)directions.

Clue 5 is one I was pretty proud to have written but since have wondered if it's really a new idea; don't remember for sure. It hit me, as most do, when I came across the answer word and noticed something interesting about it. Hint: the def is one word.

Thanks for the compliments, John. Don't understand about "font choice". Clues 4 and 5 use the same font. As for the whitefont, probably not a good idea to use it for the clues; just kidding around and won't do it again.

I'll tackle your topical #6 when I can. The only thing that occurs so far is Bartons, candy store chain that went out of business years ago.
